So, in this teardown, we will take a look at how exactly to disassemble an Xbox controller, just in case it drops and stops working or just want to explore its inside to see it’s wired. Whichever the case, this guide will help you disassemble it without a single problem.
The first step is to remove the batteries as well as the battery compartment. This should always be the first step when taking apart a gamepad.
The second step is to remove the side handles. When doing this, I recommend using a nylon spudger. Grip the controller firmly so as to remove the side handles by wedging the spudger between the front and handle plates. Then, pry the side plate away from the plate by moving the spudger back and forth. When doing this, you might need to work all the way around the side plate’s seam.
The third step is to work on the screws. Now, the controller has a hidden screw that’s located behind the warranty label in the battery compartment. To remove these screws, just a screw driver, and when removing the one on the back just punch a hole directly at the center of the label. But if you don’t want to destroy the label, you can lift the label up. Remove all the five 10mm screws at the back of the gamepad using a T8 security torx screwdriver.
Step four after all the screws are down, then remove the backplate. As there are no screws holding it, just lift the plate up, and it will be separated from the rest of the controller.
The other step is to remove the face plate. Just like the back plate, the face plate is also very easy to remove. Just lift it up to separate if from the rest of the gamepad.
Now you reach the motherboard. Please know that the mother board is pretty delicate and one wrong move will destroy your gamer. There are wires in which you should pay extra attention for. There are several screws holding the mother board together and once you remove them all, your will be ready to go. And with that, you controller will be apart. Now, when putting it back together, make sure that you follow this entire process backward. Be careful and ensure that everything goes back to where it initially was.
